Lagrein Steinraffler DOC
Vineyard / Origin: This ancient varietal, native to Alto Adige, finds excellent conditions for taking root on the slopes of our estate Steinraffler. In 1990, we have tilled the soil a portion of these vineyards to reintroduce an almost forgotten grape in Alto Adige, Lagrein to the petiole short, grafted on stumps, planting and grown with the Guyot system. the return of this ancient and autochthonous types of wine symbolizes, for us, the happy marriage between tradition and innovation.
Soil: Loamy, sandy
Vinification: after Arriving in the cellar, the grapes are destemmed, and after a short period of maceration, the juice ferments for approx. 10 days at a temperature of 28° C. During fermentation, the must remains in continuous contact with the skins. Towards the end we let the temperature rise in order to obtain a better extraction of colors and flavors.
Maturation: 15 months in small oak barrels, a further 7 months after the assembly into a large oak barrel and a minimum of one year of aging in bottle.
Description: A wanderer in the world, but still, a "native" of south Tyrol. Dense and pleasantly typical, it reveals the taster with a touch of accentuated elegance. It has a garnet red color, deep with a tendency to the black. its scent combines aromas of earthy mineral and fruity. The component of fruit remains at the top almost hidden then, in the glass, develops in crescendo memories of plums, dark ripe. The palate shows more of its aromatic components, fruity and mineral.
Food pairing: red Meats, game and cheeses.
