Tuscany
Tuscany is one of the most important wine regions in Italy, but also in the world. It owns 39 DOC wines and 11 DOCG wines. The cultivation of vineyards in Tuscany is widespread thanks to the climatic and geological characteristics. It is mainly distributed on hilly and mountainous terrain and only to a lesser extent on the plain.
The most famous wine-growing areas are: the Chianti hills (in central Tuscany), the Mugello area (to the north), the Val di Chiana (to the south), the coastal strip. Viticulture in Tuscany ranks third in Italy as a production of D.O.C. The traditional vineyards are mainly planted on flat ground to facilitate the flow of water. Among the many vines grown in Tuscany the most planted is Sangiovese, present with its grapes in all the DOCs of the region.
