In Lazio the spread of the vine goes back to at least the Etruscans, who are known for sure to cultivate it in the viterbese. It was, however, at the times of the ancient Romans, with the elevation of Rome to imperial capital, that the cultivation of the vine underwent a remarkable development. At the end of 800, the most well-known wines from Lazio were all obtained from native grape vines : Castelli Romani, Frascati, Marino and East! East!! East!!!. The modern evolution of lawn viticulture has been realized through the development of social wineries, which have provided industrial-size winemaking facilities, while innovative companies have only been born in the very last few years.
