Emilia-Romagna
Emilia-Romagna represents one of the largest wine regions in terms of extension, with around 60,000 hectares vitati. The regional surface area is about 50% flat, 25% hilly and 25% mountainous (it comes to exceed 2000 msl in the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano). So the distribution of the vines is roughly 75% in plain plain, 20% in hilly areas and 5% in the mountains (between 400 and 600 msl). The climate, and thus the paedoclimatic characteristics of the territory, give rise to the different wine areas, proceeding from the west to the east, thus approaching the mildest areas of the Romagnola Riviera.
